LG gives us some more chocolate to enjoy

Christina Aguilera may love singing about LG Chocolate phones on TV, but there looks to be more chocolate lovin’ on the way from LG. According to Crave at CNET.co.uk, LG’s new LG UP3Flat is the latest device to take on the “Chocolate” name and will go up against the likes of Apple’s popular iPod Shuffle.

Microsoft may pay Zune tax twice

December 15th, 2006 by M0tik

ms_zune_sm.jpg
Microsoft’s private deal with Universal Music to pay the record label a voluntary royalty of $1 for every Zune player it sells has raised eyebrows across both the technology and music industries. But it might not be the last payment Redmond owes from Zune, we’ve discovered.

Recently, Steve Gordon, entertainment attorney and Reg music columnist, took a skeptical look at where Universal’s Zune dollar might end up. He reminded us of a little known US tax, which harks back to the “Home Taping Is Killing Music” era. Under the Audio Home Recording Act of 1982, recording devices carry a small royalty which is then divvied up between the performing artists involved. The royalty is administered by the Alliance of Artists and Recording Companies, AARC.

How To Use The Zune as a Hard Drive

November 24th, 2006 by M0tik

zunedisk.png
Fantastic news for the handful of people who actually own a Zune. Someone’s found a way to enable a sort of hard drive support, which although doesn’t assign a drive letter to your Zune, does allow you to drag and drop files from it. Turns out it’s just a registry value to enable visibility in the shell.

While we’re running thin on details about this new Newman MoMo media player, we can tell you that the word on the street in China is that it’s quite slim at 10mm (0.39 inches) for a player with 320 x 240 resolution, plus support for AVI, ASF, MPEG, VOB, WMV, MTV, DAT, MP4, MPG, and the normal group of still formats.

Shanling’s SCD-T200A Super Audio Tube CD Player

November 22nd, 2006 by M0tik

Shanling’s strangely designed SCD-T200A is a high end CD player for the wealthy audiophile. The CD player has a top loading system situated inside custom-made aluminum housing surrounded by tube electronics. It also uses the latest Sony KHM-2334AAA drive and the Sony CXD2752R SACD decoding chip.  The SCD-T200A will set you back a whopping 3 grand, making us think that perhaps if they’d change the aluminum housing to gold, that then we might consider it.

Maxell intros MXSP-1000, the tubular iPod speaker system

November 16th, 2006 by M0tik

06.jpg
Just in case you weren’t digging the stereotypical “Made for iPod” speaker systems cluttering up the shelves out there, Maxell is busting out an uber-slim, tubular-styled setup to decorate your dorm room wall or compliment your table of choice. While it’s probably not as cool as the blown-away guy, the MXSP-1000 is a 23.4-inch long speaker system designed to conveniently hold and charge your dock connector-equipped iPod and pump out the jams through its dual 4.8-watt speakers. The unit comes in silver, black, and the ever-trendy white flavor, but at least Maxell was kind enough to toss in a 3.5-millimeter aux in jack to utilize other musical sources when your ‘Pod’s not around.

Microsoft’s first generation Zune music player is launching today at a price of $249. The 30GB, WiFi enabled player will be made available in over 30,000 retail locations and is sure to be a hot item for Christmas wish lists. But just as the Zune is hitting store shelves, the boys over in Redmond are already working on updates to the player according to Engadget. In an interview with Bloomberg, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer stated that a firmware update will be made available for the Zune in the future that will enable wireless sharing of user-created video content. The Zune currently enables wireless music sharing on a 3×3 basis (three plays for three days with the option to purchase the tracks).

Ballmer also hinted that a Zune with integrated phone capabilities would also be released down the road. No other details were provided, but rest assured that Microsoft will be going head to head with the long-rumored iPhone.
